Everquest Guides - Welcome!

Welcome to Everquest Guides! Everquest was the first ever mmorpg that I played, and I first started playing back in 2000 soon after the release of the Ruins of Kunark. Since then I have quit and come back a few times, tried out many other mmorpgs (Dark Ages of Camelot, Anarchy Online, City of Heroes, Saga of Ryzom, World of Warcraft, Everquest II) but none of them had the feel and depth of the original Everquest and so here I am, back again in the world of Norrath playing characters that are 8 years old!

Many Existing Everquest Guides Are Now Out of Date

Years ago there used to be tons of really good Everquest guides sites around such as Casters Realm, EQ Stratics and others and even though some of them are still online, most of them are grossly out of date and are no longer maintained. The trouble is that the game is now unrecognisable. At the time of writing the 15th expansion pack, Seeds of Destruction is soon to be released and with every new expansion comes new zones (usually), new equipment, new quests, new spells, skills, alternate advancement abilities and this means that the strategies and tactics for levelling, gaining gear and platinum changes every time.

For example, a few years ago the Epic quests were released and each one yielded a class weapon that was superior to anything else in the game. But nowadays you will usually be able to find an upgrade for your epic item relatively cheaply in the bazaar and this is the same for other quested items, or what was once high end raid gear. It can be frustrating if you were a player that worked so hard to get the most uber gear only to have it devalue a couple of expansions later but that’s just the way the game works!

Everquest Guides That I’ll Specialize In

So the idea of this Everquest guides site is to try and keep some fresh information coming in. I’m not going to try and cover everything because the game is absolutely huge and of course I’m not an expert at everything either! I have played most classes over the years but most of my experience is in the druid, rogue, warrior and necro classes. I’ve also played a shadowknight, enchanter, and monk to the lower levels.

One of my specialities is tradeskills. I am a master baker and brewer and I am also highly skilled in tailoring, pottery and even fishing :-) Most of the cash I have made in the game has come from tradeskills and so I can write quite a lot of Everquest guides to making plat from tradeskills but if you don’t like doing tradeskills yourself you can still make a lot of money by farming the ingredients for other players. There are hundreds, if not thousands of ways to make good platinum in Everquest at all levels and so I’ll be writing lots of Everquest guides around money!

I’ll also be writing about some of the specific systems that have been added to the game over the years such as the bazaar, the tribute system, augmentations and many more things. As I said earlier, Everquest is such a deep, involved game that it would be impossible to cover everything but I do hope you enjoy reading the Everquest guides that I do find time to write!

Just wanted to say that these are some very nice guides. Thanks for taking the time and effort to do this. I have not played EQ really since the days of Velious, but came back to try out the Seeds of Destruction (and with the bonus for all the rest of the expansions) and your guides helped with some of the bigger changes since I’ve been gone.

    Hey there,

Thanks for the nice little guides. I came looking for info on the new Mercenaries in Seeds of Destruction expansion, and your guide was very helpful.

If you can soon though I’d recommend adding a bit more info - such as:
[ ] Where you get your merc… for beginners.
[ ] How to find the Cleric vs. the Tank mercs (that’s what I was wondering basically - I hired a cleric merc and she is extremely helpful, but couldn’t find the tank mercs for my necro)
[ ] What the difference is between the Tiers. Do they cast crappier buffs? Heal for less? Heal less often? I’d like to know that. (I hired the journeyman for 1500-ish pp. She does really well, but only casts Conviction - why not Tenacity or Temerity or Gallantry? I believe the answer to that is she is level 68 just like my BL…. I need to level up for those I assume.)

Well once again, thanks much for the site. I’ve been wanting to do one just like this for a couple years. I’ll just read yours instead =)

    Best regards,
    -=VRMan=-
