Overview

Documented from Hammackj's runs; he parses everything, so the numbers come off real combat logs. Compiled guide, not his official write-up.

Dot and lifetap with no healer. Bond of Death and Drain Soul cover sustain, the necro pet holds adds and puts up 10–26% of total damage, and a one-hander plus shield covers the AC that melee output would never justify. Reaper of the Dead — a faction clicky on roughly a 20-minute recast — is the backup heal.

The full D0–D4 sweep of Master Yael is on camera. Yael deals mostly magic damage, and Mage Hunter cuts incoming magic in half, which turns every tier into a gear check this build passes. Yael HP runs 33k at D1 up to 71k at D4.

Stances & Invocations

Stance

Mage Hunter

Incoming magical damage −50%, physical −20%. Every point reduced consumes equal endurance (Strategy-reduced).

Paladin, Shadow Knight, Berserker

Defensive

Incoming physical damage −50%, magical −20%. Every point reduced consumes equal endurance, reduced by Strategy skill.

Warrior, Paladin, Shadow Knight

Invocation

Recovery

Mana regen doubled and spells cost 5% less mana. Out-of-combat regen unaffected; the regen modifier stays active out of combat even when the invocation isn't.

Cleric, Paladin, Ranger, Shadow Knight, Druid, Bard, Shaman, Necromancer, Wizard, Magician, Enchanter, Beastlord

OverChannel

Cast spells get a −150 resist adjust plus another −15 per non-hybrid caster class, at 10% of the spell's mana cost in endurance.

Cleric, Paladin, Ranger, Shadow Knight, Druid, Bard, Shaman, Necromancer, Wizard, Magician, Enchanter, Beastlord

Mage Hunter is the Yael answer — half his magic damage gone. OverChannel before the poison line lands.

Playstyle Notes

Mage Hunter on, slow lands, OverChannel down, poison and dot stack up, then lifetap discipline until the pool runs out. The pet parses 10–26% of the total and holds every add — keep it alive like it's a group member.

AA Priorities

  1. Steadfast Will — Stun resist so lifetaps land
  2. Dot crit — Necro scaling
  3. Slow magnitude — Shaman

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Full D0–D4 sweep of a raid boss on camera — the definitive Yael answer
  • No healer and it does not miss one — the dot-lifetap loop IS the healer
  • The numbers are log-parsed, not eyeballed
Cons
  • Written pre-July-14 patch — melee side is nerfed relative to launch tuning
  • Magic-heavy bosses only get this easy — the Mage Hunter trick is Yael-specific
  • No slow-immune answer in the kit
