The Planes are where a leveled character stops chasing dungeon drops and starts building a set that follows them into Kunark. Every class has a signature planar set, most classes have a higher-armor second set waiting in Hate, and the whole thing is the endgame the difficulty-tier grind was pointing at all along. This guide maps every set to its class, its plane, and the exact named that drops the chest — pulled straight from the item database, not from what players remember. Where a set carries a click or a proc, it’s called out. Where the data is thin, it says so.
Every item name below links to its full stat card and dropper list on the database. Level any piece with the slider there to see what it becomes at +10.
How the Three Planes Actually Play
The three planes are not the same fight, and gearing one doesn’t prepare you for the next.
Plane of Fear is a trap. The temple is a single connected aggro pool — pull one thing wrong and the whole room comes. Ranged aggro is unforgiving. The farming method players settled on is area control: round up a pack (aggro caps around 30, about 15 is the practical pull), mez the pile, and burn it with area nukes that hit five targets a cast. Caster shells built for this run int gear, a shield, and a resist-lowering click to pull with. Dying on purpose to reset a bad pull is part of the loop — no corpse runs, no XP loss on this server. The temple area is the payoff spot, dropping the planar robes and breastplates alongside the motes.
Plane of Hate is the forgiving one. Proximity aggro is reduced compared to Fear, so you can work a camp without the zone folding onto you. Mez is king here — an enchanter or a bard turns Hate from dangerous to routine, and most of the high-armor sets live in this plane. If you’re gearing a character for the first time, Hate is the friendlier grind and the better armor.
Plane of Sky is a puzzle, not a pull. It’s a chain of floating islands you unlock in sequence, reached now through Tim Sending in the Oasis of Marr — Spectre Isle’s second floor, behind a clickable flaming sword. The Freeport orb entrance is gone. Sky loot is the all-class Golden Efreeti set and the Efreeti weapons, and getting to each Efreeti means timing griffin and pegasus patrols rather than mezzing a room. Bring Spell Range II (the Moonstone Ring out of Lower Guk) if you plan to pacify the bees on the B island.

Three more sets aren’t tied to one class. Cryosilk is a shared caster set for Enchanter, Magician, Necromancer, and Wizard — the Cryosilk Robe drops off a spinechiller spider in both Fear and Hate. Lustrous Russet is a shared melee set across eight classes, chest at AC 26. Midnight is a low-armor set spread across most non-plate classes. Casters lean on these plus the Cazic Thule god drops below rather than their AC-11 class robe, because for a caster the number that matters is mana and resists, not armor class.
Plane of Fear
Fear is where most class sets start and where the caster endgame lives. The class robes and plate come off the temple trash and the Amygdalan line — the Amygdalan knight is the SK/plate dropper, the Amygdalan warrior drops the caster robes. Work the temple with the mez-and-AE method and the set pieces come alongside the motes.
The plate sets in Fear
For Shadow Knight, the Umbral Platemail set is the one to build — the breastplate is AC 30 with STR 13, STA 9, DEX 9, off the Amygdalan knight, and several pieces (bracer, greaves, helm, vambraces) also spawn in Hate so you can farm them in the friendlier plane. SKs have a second Fear option in Greenmist, chest AC 30 off a nightmare, if you want to run both while you chase upgrades.
Paladins build Valorium in Fear (chest AC 30, STR 13, STA 9, WIS 9) and then replace it piece by piece with Righteous in Hate — that’s the real Paladin progression, and it’s covered in the Hate section.
Warriors chase Indicolite, the set the community has called the warrior planar set since beta — chest AC 35 with STR/STA/DEX 15 across the board, off a kiraikuei and Innoruuk’s Chosen. It spawns in both Fear and Hate.
The caster prize: the Cazic Thule god drops
The caster class robes (Carmine, Blighted, Apothic, Insidious, Cryosilk) are AC 11 and exist to fill slots. The gear a caster actually goes to Fear for drops off Cazic Thule himself:
- Robe of Inspiration — AC 20, INT 20, MANA 100, every resist at +15, and Flowing Thought I worn. This is the caster chest for the whole tier.
- Brain of Cazic Thule — a range item with HP 100, MANA 100, every stat and every resist at +10, Flowing Thought I worn. The CHA −25 is the cost.
- Eye of Cazic Thule — a face-slot version, MANA 100 and FT1 worn, same −25 CHA.
- Amulet of Necropotence — INT 13, a clicky skeleton illusion, HP −100. Enchanter, Magician, Necromancer.
Flowing Thought is mana regen that never stops, and stacking two or three FT items is what lets a caster shell chain-nuke a Fear pull without sitting to drink. That’s the reason casters farm the god, not the class robe.
Resist and utility pieces worth the trip
- Shawl of Protection — every resist at +35, off a dracoliche. A back slot that shrugs off a boss’s stun chain. Resists win boss fights here more often than armor class does.
- Cloak of the Fearsome — AC 15, STR/STA 15, HP 100, off Cazic Thule. A melee back piece for the same tier.
Plane of Hate
Hate is the better first plane for most characters — lower proximity aggro, and the highest-armor sets in the game so far. Innoruuk and his court drop nearly everything here; the “of the X” sets and the Hate-specific sets are the upgrade over anything Fear gives the same class.
The high-armor Hate sets
These are the reason to gear in Hate. Five classes get a distinct Hate set that outclasses their Fear armor:
- Paladin — Righteous. The Breastplate of the Righteous is AC 42 — the highest chest in the tier — with STR/STA, AGI/DEX 8, WIS 12, HP 60, MANA 40, and a Shield of Words click built into the piece. Off a hatebone drake and a Knight of Innoruuk. This is the Paladin endgame chest until Kunark.
- Ranger — Untamed. The Breastplate of the Untamed is AC 37 with a Call of Earth click, HP 25, MANA 50, and resists across the board, off an Agent of Innoruuk.
- Warrior — Legionnaire Scale. The Legionnaire Scale Breastplate runs AC 33 with STR/STA/DEX 15 and a stack of resists, off a kiraikuei and Grandmaster R`Tal. It’s an eight-piece set — the only one with a shoulder slot — so it covers a slot the others don’t.
- Shaman — Scaled Hierophant. Chest AC 26 off a spite golem, the priest upgrade over the Rune Etched set.
- Druid — Harmony. A clicky set worn as armor. The Hauberk of Harmony casts Regrowth of the Grove, the Greaves cast Circle of Misty, the Sandals cast Spirit of Wolf, and the Wristguard casts Drones of Doom — a full self-buff kit worn as armor, all off a Disciple of Innoruuk. A druid in Harmony hands their trio run speed and a heal-over-time without spending a spell slot.
The Hate weapons
Innoruuk and his court drop the best planar melee weapons:
- Ashenbone Warhammer — 34/43 two-hand blunt, ratio 0.79, off Innoruuk himself. The top warrior 2H in the tier.
- Beckon — a 30/42 two-hand slasher for Shadow Knights, ratio 0.71, off the Lord of Loathing and Innoruuk.
- Darkmetal Falchion — a 27/29 one-hander, ratio 0.93, the highest-ratio planar weapon in the data, for Paladin and Shadow Knight off the Disciples and Dragoons.
- Sunderfury — 25/36 warrior 2H off Grandmaster R`Tal.
Universal caster utility in Hate
- Crown of Hatred — an all-caster head piece with Ultravision, off a haunted chest and an Elite Dragoon. Fills the head slot for any caster who skipped their class turban.
Plane of Sky
Sky is the odd one out. There are no class armor sets here — the loot is one all-class set and the Efreeti weapon line, and both come off the three Efreeti that unlock in sequence up the islands: Noble Dojorn, the Overseer of Air, and the Hand of Veeshan.
Golden Efreeti — the all-class set
The Golden Efreeti set fits all fourteen of the older classes (Beastlord and Berserker don’t share it). The chest is AC 20 with STR 5, WIS 10 — low armor for a plate wearer, but the point isn’t the AC. The Golden Efreeti Turban carries every resist at +6, which makes it a resist head slot any class can wear, and the whole set is a way to put planar-tier gear on a class that hasn’t touched Fear or Hate yet. The Ring is Magician-only; the rest is open to everyone.
The Efreeti weapons
The Efreeti drop a full weapon line usable by Paladin, Ranger, Shadow Knight, and Warrior:
- Efreeti Zweihander — 24/45 two-hand slasher, the heaviest hitter of the line.
- Efreeti Battle Axe — 15/28 two-hand slasher, ratio 0.54.
- Efreeti War Spear — the piercer, usable by Bard, Rogue, Shaman, and Warrior. Rogues chase this one as their endgame backstab weapon; the Shimmering Ruby Stiletto out of Befallen carries a rogue until they can reach island 8 for it.
The three Efreeti unlock as you climb, not all at once. The first sits on island 1 through the west teleporter pad, with a patrolling bladestorm you’ll always pull alongside him — slow both. The second is on island 4; time the griffin and pegasus patrols and drag him somewhere clear before you commit. The third is on island 8, kill-on-sight and patrolling the outer ring — watch him from island 7 and pull when he swings near, and don’t stand on the port pad while you wait.
Why Difficulty Tier Is the Whole Point
Planar armor is the +10 chase, and the difficulty tier you farm at decides how fast you get there. The loot table doesn’t change with difficulty — the plus-tier and merge value of what drops does. Each tier doubles the merge points: D0 counts 1, D1 counts 2, D2 counts 4, D3 counts 8, D4 counts 16. A D4 drop is worth sixteen D0 drops when you’re pushing a piece toward +10, which is why the farming rule for the planes is D4, and why a non-respawning instance is the clean-clear answer when you want a set finished.
At +10 most pieces roughly double their armor and stats — a Righteous breastplate goes from AC 42 to AC 84, an Umbral from 30 to 60. Run any item through the slider on the database to see its +10 line before you commit to farming it.
A Note on Data Completeness
This guide is built from the wiki item database, so it’s only as complete as the wiki. Two known gaps: Beastlord (Anthemion) and Berserker (Shadow Rage) sets are thin — six pieces each, low armor, and almost nothing in Sky — because those classes are newer and their planar loot is still being catalogued. And a handful of Mistmoore-era items landed on the wiki only recently. If a piece you’ve seen drop isn’t linked here, it may not be on the wiki yet; that’s a data gap, not a claim the item doesn’t exist.
